Developing a Cohesive Visual Aesthetic for Oronegro Jewellery

Recently, I’ve been experimenting with product photography and social media at Oronegro to create a cohesive visual aesthetic that showcases our jewellery in the best possible light. My focus has been on highlighting the unique qualities of our pounamu (New Zealand greenstone), which—like green eyes—can appear in different shades depending on its background and lighting conditions.

One of my key discoveries has been the use of a black backdrop combined with backlighting to emphasise the translucency of the pounamu. This approach highlights the intricate details and varying colours of the stone, allowing customers to appreciate its full beauty.

This investigation was prompted by an Instagram poll, where 70% of users expressed a preference for black backgrounds over white. By incorporating this feedback into our visual strategy, I’m ensuring that our products are presented in a way that resonates with our audience.
